A big thanks to Phil Hunt who gave the CCNZ BOP branch a rundown on what it takes to make a truckload of concrete as he gave us a tour of the new plant.
The state-of-the-art plant equipment was shipped to New Zealand from Italy in more than 20 containers and assembled onsite 'lego style'.
Keeping the trucks and plant clean requires a lot of water, with a dedicated wash down zone where water and waste concrete is separated into builders mix and concrete 'powder' for use offsite. The remaining water goes through a filtration process before being stored onsite in tanks with the capacity to hold up to 150,000 litres for reuse. The site is working towards zero waste to landfill, where all waste is repurposed or recycled on-site.
As contractors, we are huge consumers of concrete and concrete products so it was great to check out what goes into producing a batch.
