The award winners from the Civil Contractors New Zealand Otago Branch Hynds Construction Awards were named on Friday 21 May at the CCNZ Otago AGM and Awards Dinner.
The 2021 awards were held at the Dunedin Town Hall, and attended by around 300 people representing the region's civil construction industry.
CCNZ Chief Executive Peter Silcock commented that the awards recognised the amazing people and projects completed in the past year from across the Otago region. He congratulated the finalists on their good work, and the branch on the awards event.
"This year's awards were a great celebration and acknowledgement of the care, time and effort of the contractors who are working across the Otago region", Mr Silcock said. "It was great to see so many people there to represent their companies, and the great results the region's hardworking contractors have achieved."
This year's top award for projects over NZD $5m went to Wilson Contractors 2003 Ltd, for the Waterfall Park Access Road project in Arrowtown, which also won the CCNZ Otago Environmental Award, sponsored by Cirtex Civil.
HEB Construction won the award category for projects over NZD $1m for construction of the Brunswick Street Stormwater Line in Queenstown. Fulton Hogan won the award for projects up to NZD $1m for its work on the Severn Street wall in Oamaru, while Whitestone Contracting won the award category for projects up to NZD $1m for the Aubrey Road Soak Pit in Wanaka. Alex Sutherland of Fulton Hogan Dunedin won the Hirepool Young Contractor of the Year Award, facing off against Zane Tomalin of HEB Queenstown and Sam Gillaly of Fulton Hogan Central to win the award.
The branch also received 36 amazing entries for its photo competition, which was sponsored by Isaac Construction. Base Contracting 2003 Ltd won the Activities and Jobs category for a photo of excavators constructing with layered slabs under a snow-clad mountain range, Downer Dunedin won the People & Team category, and Blackhead quarries won the Plant and Scenic category for an amazing photo of its Antarctic Quarry.
