Improving procurement processes can make councils a “client of choice” and benefit their staff, the communities they serve, and the contractors they work with. That’s the message CCNZ Chief Executive Peter Silcock gave in a video interview that will be screened at a series of local government workshops being run by the Road Efficiency Group.
The interview, conducted with Richard Kirby of Tasman District Council, provided CCNZ with an opportunity to highlight key issues on behalf of contractors. These include the importance of a clear and reliable pipeline of work, good quality RFT documents, using standard contracts with minimal special conditions and not transferring unmanageable risks to contractors.
The video also emphasises community benefits and cost savings that can be delivered through early contractor involvement and working collaboratively with contractors. The simple message is that contractors have knowledge and expertise that can add real value.
