CCNZ provided a briefing to key ministers in the coalition government, including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Ministers for Infrastructure, Transport, Finance, Regulation, Education, Immigration, Building and Construction, Emergency Management, Mental Health and Social Development.
The briefing called for better recognition of the needs of civil contractors across these portfolios, as well as better engagement between Government and the civil construction industry.
It noted the importance of a committed and funded civil construction work programme, better intake and training for the domestic and international workforce, construction-specific mental health support resourcing, and clear resolutions to the ongoing education, water, local government, resource management and emergency management reforms.
CCNZ has since written to ministers following the uptake of their portfolio responsibilities, highlighting specific opportunities across each portfolio and calling for meetings early in 2024.
