After the first visit to Rarotonga back in August 2021, a team of experienced surfacing members from both the Paving and Sealing departments were asked to return to the Island to assist with further training and supervision to help deliver the surfacing works. The Island continue to go through tough times especially hardest hit in the tourism sector with many locals leaving the island to seek work elsewhere either in NZ or Australia and have yet to return leaving the island short of personnel across all sectors to ensure the economy continues to improve.
Whilst there, the team had experienced their first “King Tide” with waves reported as high as 3.5-4.5meters flooding most hotels and resorts on the west side of the island with many of them having to be evacuated with the teams focus then turning to the clean-up of the island and unblocking waterways and culverts.
Whilst it might seem a nice getaway for the team- rest assured there’s plenty of work going on keeping them very busy each day consulting and training the locals to ensure they can rebuild their own capabilities so they can continue to deliver quality projects.
