Each year, the CCNZ Auckland Hynds Construction Awards highlight the outstanding achievements within the civil construction industry, and recognise the commendable efforts of companies and project teams that have earned regional recognition. These awards not only celebrate innovation and growth, but also serve as a source of inspiration for future civil contractors.
On Saturday night, over 500 of Auckland’s civil contractors gathered to celebrate all the people, projects, innovations, and technologies that make up the region’s impressive civil construction industry. “It’s great to be able to come together to connect, and celebrate, some great people, achievements, and projects. It’s so important to celebrate successes along the way, and you have all contributed to our communities so much through your hard work and dedication.” said Chair of the CCNZ Auckland Branch, Hugh Goddard.
It was an evening filled with storytelling and celebration across the Auckland civil construction industry, especially for McConnell Dowell Constructors who secured the win for the Hynds Supreme Award at the CCNZ Auckland Hynds Construction Awards 2023 Gala Dinner.
McConnell Dowell Constructors, Ngā Hau Māngere (meaning ‘gentle lazy winds’), Old Māngere Bridge Replacement project was anything but lazy. The project, which deconstructed the old bridge and built a new architecturally iconic bridge, was logistically complex. McConnell Dowell also ensured that the area’s history and culture were reflected in the design and delivery of the new bridge by collaborating with mana whenua and local iwi.
Aligning key values from the CCNZ organisation such as trust, professionalism, and collaboration with the project meant delivering an exceptionally special structure to the Onehunga and Māngere Bridge communities. McConnell Dowell Constructors took a holistic approach to the project, working closely with the client, upskilling and training interns onsite, and developing a team of marine engineer specialists to deliver the project on time, and with an excellent environmental record.
"It really highlights the technical work that we do, the technical challenges in delivering construction, but that's providing a life for our communities, the people we work with, and for our clients, and it's just a privilege to be here and be recognised for the mahi that these guys' have contributed, that's fantastic” said McConnell Dowell Constructors after their Hynds Supreme Award win.
The Supreme win was an exciting addition to McConnell Dowell Constructors’ previous Project Category D win earlier in the evening.
