Papakainga (ancestral home) developments and outstanding service to the community was recognised at the 26th CCNZ Hawke's Bay East Coast Branch Hirepool Construction Excellence Awards, held at the Old Church Winery in Napier on 20 November.
The winner of Category One - Projects with a value of less than $200,000 was Gair Contracting, which took the award for the Mahue Pera Auhu Trust Papakainga Development Earthworks in Te Hauke.
Gair Construction Managing Director Bailey Gair congratulated her team on a job well done.
"It was a great night at the Hawkes Bay East Coast CCNZ branch awards. It's always good to catch up with industry friends and celebrate some excellent projects completed over the year. We were thrilled to pick up a construction award for a papakainga [ancestral home] project we completed this winter."
Higgins won Category Two - Projects with a value between $200,000 and $1m - with another papakainga construction project to construct the residential infrastructure construction for the Aorangi Maori Trust Board.
Fulton Hogan picked up three award categories. Its Central Hawke's Bay District Council Otane Alternative Water Supply project picked up the award for projects $1-3M, the Tairāwhiti Roads Emergency Works won the award for Projects over $3M, and its Hastings District Council Rural Network Maintenance initiative won the award for excellence in the maintenance and management of assets.
“The region cleaned up and I am delighted with the results. Winning three out of the five categories is testament to the hard work the region has been doing. A massive achievement for all the teams involved, including the support from other departments,” says Fulton Hogan Regional Manager Andrew Harvey.
Branch Manager Charlie Fergus also received an achievement award for his 40 years involvement with CCNZ, after serving on the national Executive Council and holding the role of Branch Chair on multiple occasions.
“Charlie has played an active role in CCNZ for 40 years, which is incredible. We were delighted to be part of his celebration and recognise his commitment,” said Mr Harvey.
A Connexis People Award was also presented to Adam Saunders, who is a Senior Maintenance Foreman at Downer. Adam has now won this regional award two years in a row for his consistent commitment to building his skills and delivering work of outstanding quality.
