Civil Contractors NZ (CCNZ) and the Institute of Quarrying (IOQ) Canterbury Westland branches joined forces once again hosting our 2nd annual charity golf day, generously supported by our tremendous group of sponsors, led out by major sponsors Commercial Vehicle Holdings Ltd.
Steve Davis, well known auctioneer, and MC for the annual IOQ/AQA quarry conference for 20+ years, very kindly donated his time to officiate throughout the day, with Speirs Finance sponsoring his airfares and accommodation to come down from the North Island. Steve brought another level of professionalism and expertise to the proceedings, including extracting some excellent auction results. Thanks Steve, and we hope to see you again next year.
The weather played its part, and after a hearty BBQ brunch supplied and superbly chef’d by the team from Taggart Earthmoving, our full limit of teams headed off to allocated tees in brilliant sunshine.
The full 18 holes were sponsored, and there were some great surprises for players along the way, from “shots” to additional yummy food and beverages, and some novelty games to amuse everyone when there was the occasional tee off delay. Somewhat surprisingly there were very few holdups through the day, all participants heeding the call to keep the game moving, and generally everyone finished on or very close to 4pm as planned.
The event could not happen without a great volunteer committee, and we sincerely thank John Crawley, Stewart McSkimming, Troy Adamson, Phil Rich, Dan Francis, Dave Bainbridge and Eve Cooper for their commitment to making the day such a success. Special mention also to Marc McSkimming on photography duty, plus TDX and Parks Garage in the very welcome drinks carts doing the rounds all day.
And the winners were:-
- 1st place: Team Fulton Hogan (Captain Mike Earnshaw)
- 2nd place: Team TR Group (Captain Ari (Muzz) Murray)
- 3rd place: Team Komatsu (Captain Lawrence Harvey)
….a special mention to Garden City Helicopters Aviation team who were also right up there in the mix. Unfortunately we had a wee glitch in the scorer’s tent, and we thank them for their understanding - we’ve since “put this right”.
Last but not least the real winner on the day was our chosen charity, the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust, and we’re thrilled to be handing over the grand total of $22,900.00, which is a big lift on last years result. It goes without saying the Trust performs an absolutely critical service for our communities, and we do hope the donation helps keep them in the air doing their fabulous duty.
We cannot finish without acknowledging our sponsors once again, be that hole sponsors, longest drive, nearest the pin, BBQ brunch, food, beverage carts, clubhouse drinks, auction and raffle items, and of course prizes down to team 21 for competitors.
Thank you again to all of our generous sponsors and players on the day and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!! Save the date :: Friday 4th October 2024.
