This test determines the accuracy of a tanker dipstick by either filling or emptying the tanker with a known volume of liquid. The verification is carried out at 20% intervals over range of the dipstick (see also CCNZ BPG02: clause 5.3.6). A dipstick reading is taken at the beginning and end of each stage. A separate estimate of the amount of liquid transferred in each stage is made using either a weighbridge or a metering device, and this estimate is compared with the dipstick value.
This test method may involve hazardous materials, operations and equipment. This method does not purport to address all the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of whoever uses this method to consult and establish appropriate safety and health practices. CCNZ Best Practice Guideline: The Safe Handling of Bituminous Materials used for Roading (BPG01) (related document 2.1) should be consulted prior to the use of this method.
Note: if flammable liquids are used, ensure compliance with all applicable dangerous goods regulations.
