Intro - Civil Trades gaining recognition among asset owners

Hello and welcome to the Winter edition of Civil Matters. In this newsletter we profile recently certified Civil Tradesperson Kini Pepe, seek your views on the value you receive from Civil Trades certification and provide an update on Civil Trades in New Zealand.

Over the past few weeks we’ve had some promising conversations with educators, as well as with local and central government about ensuring Civil Trades certification is given due consideration during procurement processes when awarding contracts.

I hope to be able to share more about that in our next newsletter edition, but in the short term I’m pleased to share that our vocational training partner Connexis will be distributing information about Civil Trades with all certifiable civil infrastructure NZQA Level 4 qualifications. More and more people in our industry are completing civil trades certification to take the next step in their careers and it’s fantastic to see the scheme gaining greater recognition.

Lastly, if you are a member of Civil Contractors New Zealand, keep an eye out for your next branch meeting. There are 12 branches around the country and these are a good way to meet others in your region and engage with the industry. Not to mention there’s often great chat, and sometimes free nibbles!

Best regards,

David Howard

Glowing employer references, expert understanding of water infrastructure and thousands of proven hours working on water pipes around Wellington has helped Fulton Hogan’s Kini Pepe to gain Civil Trades certification and the confidence to take the next step in his career. The Lower Hutt man gained his  certification recently; laying the foundations for what he hopes might be a move into a team leader role in future.
