Event Detail

Starting from November 1st, NZTA has retired COPTTM and transitioned to NZGTTM. NZTA-controlled roads will adopt this change right away, while local RCAs will gradually phase out COPTTM over the next few years.

This major shift places responsibility on the PCBU (your company) to ensure that all road workers have the proper training and certifications, and are capable of understanding, developing, and executing risk assessment processes.

NZTA (Waka Kotahi) will no longer provide national-level training and competency guidance. Instead, these requirements will be outlined by the specific contracts and networks involved.

Risk assessments must be formalised and agreed upon across the contracting chain, including TTM suppliers, subcontractors, contractors, and principals within awarded contracts.

With the transition from COPTTM to NZGTTM, there will be increased flexibility in TTM approaches. However, additional requirements must still be adhered to in order to ensure compliance.

  • Health & Safety Act
  • Land Transport Act
  • Local Government Act
  • Traffic control device rules etc...
