RMA reform - the next steps

CCNZ, along with other industry organisations, is engaging with Ministry for the Environment to help inform the government’s Resource Management Reform policy.

We are currently providing feedback to inform the drafting of new stand-alone fast-track consenting legislation aimed at making it easier to consent new national, regional and local infrastructure and development.

Due to limited consultation timeframes, CCNZ will at present base its submission on previous RMA reform advocacy. The bill is expected to be introduced by 7 March as part of the Government's 100-day plan and enacted late 2024. There will also be opportunities for wider feedback from CCNZ members through a select committee process.

In principle, CCNZ supports fast tracking of infrastructure projects through the RMA process, as well as including enabling infrastructure such as cleanfill and quarry consents in scope for fast tracking. We will be engaging further with government to make sure contractors' perspective is considered.
